When I started Drawing a Drawing 365 (www.DrawingADrawing.com) I had no idea how fans would react to my lofty ambition to take on 365 daily portraits, dozens of drawing & painting commissions, and a full-length tutorial all in the span of 1 short year! Well…

25 days and 365 backers later,
    we’ve hit the $50K mark…
and we still have 5 days to go!

This has been an absolute dream. There are no words to express my gratitude for all of the support I have received so far. I have a lot of work ahead of me and I can honestly say that I’ve never been so excited to create art in my life! I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow throughout this exciting process, and share my journey and the beautiful things that are sure to come out of it with those who are interested.

For those just joining… I am drawing 1 portrait every day for 1 year to help fund a full-length drawing/painting tutorial via Kickstarter*. Those who support the project have the opportunity to be one of the “days” in the 365 days and have their own unique and meaningful personal portrait drawn.

In appreciation of all of the love & support I’ve received from this project…

I’m giving away THREE free portrait days!

To give you a glimpse of what 365-pledgers (and portrait WINNERS) have to look forward to, I’ve created an example of what one of these sketches will look like along with a time-lapse video of the making-of.

*Kickstarter is a platform for artists to showcase and raise funds for their creative projects. It allows fans the opportunity to help bring the ideas they choose to life. The best part is that in return for a pledge, backers get cool rewards… in my Drawing a Drawing 365 project this includes prints, DVDs, personal portraits, even an e-book sharing what I’ve learned to help fellow artists launch projects of their own. So a couple of weeks ago my fiance, Melissa, and I set out to make a video about our story together as a couple. What began as an attempt to win free photography for our wedding turned into so much more…

To tell our story we dropped everything and for 7 days straight we relived 12 years, traveling all across Connecticut to places that held old memories; interviewing each other for hours on end; laughing hysterically as we created ridiculous “movie scenes”; editing our brains out; wiping away each others tears; and gaining a new appreciation for each other along the way. We realized even more how much we can accomplish together. It was an incredible week!

Long story short – we posted the video, emailed our entry, and went through a fun/suspenseful/stressful voting process. The voting closed, the photographers deliberated (see here), and… well… unfortunately we didn’t win. After all that, we were definitely a bit bummed but more than anything we were so grateful for how this giveaway motivated us and gave us a reason to record such an important and meaningful time in our life.

During the contest, we hit up a lot of people for votes and we just want to thank everyone again from the bottom of our hearts for all of your wonderful comments, likes, and shares! We wouldn’t even have had a chance without your amazing support! Every single “like” mattered so much to us and we certainly felt the LOVE!!!

If you haven’t seen it yet, we hope you enjoy our video as much as we did making it!

I’ve had a few sketches lying around and the other day one jumped out at me and told me to paint it. So I did. AND I recorded a quick time-lapse video of the painting process…
