365 Days!!!

Daily Drawings

Day 2 | Day 21 | Day 23 | Day 30 | Day 34 | Day 40 | Day 46 | Day 59

As part of a big Kickstarter project I drew an incredible 1 portrait every day for 1 year! Those who supported the project had the opportunity to be one of the “days” in the 365 days and have their own unique personal portrait drawn…. Well, 365 days have zipped by and it’s hard to wrap my head around what has just happened!!

Daily Drawings

Day 71 | Day 78 | Day 84 | Day 95 | Day 109 | Day 121 | Day 122 | Day 135

First of all, it’s been an absolute privilege drawing personal portraits for the amazing people that took part. I loved hearing stories of who was being drawn and why – some very emotional and touching, some fun and interesting, and all of them unique and lovely in their own way. I’m so thankful to everyone who took part.

This project has taught me a lot (and continues to teach me as I still have many paintings, an e-book, and a DVD to finish!). Drawing every day without fail was not an easy feat. It took a lot of hard work and dedication and as with everything there were some benefits and challenges…

  • I was able to draw personal and meaningful portraits for some pretty amazing people and that alone has been incredibly rewarding
  • I learned more about self-discipline and perseverance by making the decision not to give up and draw every piece the best I could at the time
  • I thought I was good at drawing before but looking back I don’t know how true that was (lol!) so a major benefit was that I definitely improved
  • It was kind of like being in a condensed summer course at college but a way more intense and longer version with a bigger sense of responsibility. Being in that demanding situation allowed me to transform myself into a better artist more quickly than I naturally would have
  • I’m faster and more comfortable at drawing now which is really nice
  • Before the project, drawing commissions were a bit scary for me and now I’m more comfortable and have a lot more confidence with them. It’s become a lot more natural than it was before
  • I also learned that self-care is really important after sitting in a chair for a year and neglecting everything possible for the work involved

  • The greatest challenge was the deadlines. Some days were better than others and I always gave it my all but I had to post the drawing even if I wasn’t completely happy with it because time was up
  • Having no time off meant that I didn’t have much time to reflect or think about the direction I wanted to go in – I just had to keep going
  • There was a huge pressure in getting a likeness right and it was nerve-wracking sending drawing images to pledgers because I didn’t know if they would like them or not (thankfully most did)
  • I was already a shut-in before the project but this brought it to a whole new level. I had to sacrifice almost all of my personal time and it didn’t really leave room for much else to happen. When unexpected personal stuff did happen, this created even more of a challenge in keeping up with the rest of the project and my online presence and communications.
Even though there may be some things I would have done differently had I known then what I know now, this experience has been tremendously valuable and truly life-changing for me. I want to thank my backers for their wonderful support and I want to thank everyone who followed along with every drawing during this incredible year of portraits.

Painted Sound at Flower Pepper Gallery

I recently completed a piece for an exciting upcoming exhibition called Painted Sound, a project curated by Ixie Darkonn & Alexandra Mazzanti (Dorothy Circus Gallery) that opens at Flower Pepper Gallery in Pasadena later this month. Inspiration for each piece came from my go-to inspiration… MUSIC! Artist’s chose a song, painted their hearts out, and wrote about how and why the song inspired them. The painting images / descriptions from the 46 artists taking part will exhibit AND be made into a small book coming out later this month (will keep you posted about that!).
Here’s my piece…

Circe   (pronounced SUR-see)

When I started DRAWING A DRAWING 365 ( I had no idea how fans would react to my lofty ambition to take on 365 daily portraits, dozens of drawing & painting commissions, and a full-length tutorial all in the span of 1 short year! Well…

25 days and 365 backers later,
we’ve hit the $50K mark…
and we still have 5 days to go!

This has been an absolute dream. There are no words to express my gratitude for all of the support I have received so far. I have a lot of work ahead of me and I can honestly say that I’ve never been so excited to create art in my life! I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow throughout this exciting process, and share my journey and the beautiful things that are sure to come out of it with those who are interested.

1 Portrait Every Day for 1 Year

For those just joining… I am drawing 1 portrait every day for 1 year to help fund a full-length drawing/painting tutorial via Kickstarter*. Those who support the project have the opportunity to be one of the “days” in the 365 days and have their own unique and meaningful personal portrait drawn.

In appreciation of all of the love & support I’ve received from this project…

I’m giving away THREE free portrait days!!!

To give you a glimpse of what 365-pledgers (and portrait WINNERS) have to look forward to, I’ve created an example of what one of these sketches will look like along with a time-lapse video of the making-of.

The best part is that in return for a pledge, backers get cool rewards… in my Drawing a Drawing 365 project this includes prints, DVDs, personal portraits, even an e-book sharing what I’ve learned to help fellow artists launch projects of their own. (

Thanks to everyone who entered! I truly appreciate all of the wonderful, beautiful comments. You guys are awesome and I wish I could create a special portrait for each one of you!
